Girls Lacrosse 2025: HKHS Team’s Season Update

By Janice R. Calvi-Ruimerman

(May 1, 2025) — Guided by the three-tiered coaching team of Ferrer, Baldwin and Bombaci, the Haddam Killingworth High School Girls Lacrosse team has become a force to be reckoned with.

In their season opener on April 5, 2025, the Cougars took down the Thunderbirds on the North Branford field. It was an epic 9-8 win over their long-time rivals, with the first goal being served by Captain Seanna “SeaSea” Ruimerman’s, her 100th goal.

After suffering a non-league loss to Suffield, the team went on to battle Old Saybrook at home.  This was a sad day for the Cougars to have most of the penalty calls against them, thereby resulting in a two-point loss to Old Saybrook. Even though Captain Ava Ramino continuously drew the draw, gaining possession and getting the goals, the turnover for penalties was unmanageable.

The Morgan game was no different. With Captain Gabrielle “Gabby” Williams absent from the net, HK’s defense had a lot to carry with the additional loss of defensive Captain Madalynn “Maddie-Cat” Catalano.  However, this young HK Team does not give up and with redemption fueling their fate, the Cougars re-grouped, re-calibrated and re-aligned to become a true “well-oiled-machine”, beating Valley 6-5 in overtime and Old Saybrook 12-6 on the Rams home turf. Strong leadership, perseverance, dedication, on-field communication, coupled with a shared goal gives this team the capability to make their mark this season TOGETHER! Great games, Ladies.
