(February 18, 2025) — The regular meeting of the Haddam Board of Selectmen on February 10, 2025, was called to order by First Selectman Robert McGarry at 6:34 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam. Selectmen Kate Anderson and Peter Baird were present.
First Selectman McGarry provided the following updates:
For Scovil Hoe, construction fencing is installed. The town is awaiting final cost estimates from the remediation contractors to complete the Project Administration and Monitoring Plan application to the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.
For the Rossi Property, the Planning and Zoning Commission has selected Silver Petrucelli Architects and Benesch Engineering to conduct a Town Garage Needs Assessment and Site Search. The town received seven proposals; three were over budget and four firms were interviewed.
During a 2020 conversion of tax assessment software, an accounting error was made that resulted in the excess property being doubled in areas with R-1 zoning. Approximately 105 properties were affected; they will receive applicable tax refunds.
The six towns using the Essex Transfer Station met on January 17, 2025 to decide how to proceed after the Materials Innovation and Recycling Authority stops operations on June 30, 2025. The Town of Essex is soliciting cost information to have the current contractor continue to operate the facility.
The proposed Zoning Violation Citations and Procedures have been sent to the town attorney for review.
Selectman Anderson thanked the Public Works Department for their work with recent storms.
Selectman Anderson shared that the Economic Development Committee attended a beneficial EDC 101 class. Also, the EDC is looking to fill vacancies—there was a meeting on February 12, 2025 to make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen for appointments to be made at the March meeting.
Selectman Anderson made a motion to approve the January 2025 Tax Refunds in the amount of $9,243.17. The motion carried.
Selectman Anderson made a motion to approve a resolution designating First Selectman McGarry as the CEO for the Town of Haddam, to be eligible to apply for and enter into any agreements pertaining to the 2025 Neglected Cemetery Grant. The motion carried.
There was a discussion regarding East Hampton’s request for responding to Haddam Neck residents’ medical calls. Selectman Baird made a motion to approve an additional $8,000 to the 2025-2026 budget. The motion carried.
The next regular Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for March 10, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam.
