Tutors Needed at Literacy Volunteers/Valley Shore

Submitted by Joanne Argersinger, Literacy Volunteers

(August 20, 2024) — Literacy Volunteers/Valley Shore is accepting applications for our Fall 2024 Tutor Training Workshop. No experience is needed for this enriching experience, only a desire to have fun, learn another culture and help someone in our community.

Through our twelve-hour program, conducted over eight sessions, individuals learn how to teach English to adult residents from around the world who want to learn or improve their English language skills. Potential tutors choose either the morning sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., or the evening sessions from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Morning sessions are held in person at our office in the Westbrook Library; evening sessions are held via Zoom. The next training session begins September 26, 2024 and runs through October 31, 2024. We also have an online self-facilitated training option available for those unable to attend the workshops but who would still like to be trained as LVVS tutors.

We ask for a $35 donation for the training materials provided. If you are interested in becoming a tutor you can obtain an application on our website www.lvvs.org. Registration deadline is September 13, 2024.

If you would like more information please contact the Literacy Volunteers office at (860) 399-0280 or by e-mail at jargersinger@lvvs.org
