DOT Issues Two-Week Lookahead for Haddam Roundabouts Project

Submitted by Sara Mendillo
(June 17, 2024) — The Connecticut Department of Transportation has issued a two-week lookahead for the Route 82/Route 154 Roundabouts project.
Though no work is expected to take place at the Northern Roundabout over the next two weeks, there will be a great deal of activity at the Southern Roundabout, with work happening mostly behind the barrier pertaining to the bridge construction.  Here is what to expect as far as traffic impacts:
  • Contractor will be working in the Route 82 Southern side shoulder; this will include a traffic pattern to shift traffic to the north while maintaining one lane in each direction.
  • Contractor will be working on drainage along the center of the connector as well as near the center and southeastern side of the intersection of Route 154 and the Route 82 connector.  This will be tricky and impact traffic with traffic shifts, but the contractor is required to maintain one lane in each direction with the ability to stop traffic for no more than ten minutes.  Route 154 can be switched to an alternating one-way traffic pattern if need be.
  • During the week of July 24, 2024, motorists can expect a traffic shift with barrier that will have one lane in each direction on the Route 82 connector.  This will include temporary pavement markings and a traffic taper further up the connector to shift traffic to the southern side. This will be the orientation for the foreseeable future.
Please note that all of the traffic patterns or project work are subject to change as necessary.
