Haddam Cub Scouts to Host Pinewood Derby February 24th

(February 8, 2024) — The Haddam Cub Scouts will be hosting their Annual Pinewood Derby Outlaw Race on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, with the weigh-in for cars scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  It will be held at Valley Bible Church at 220 Turkey Hill Road in Haddam.

You do not have to be a Scout or even a kid to participate.  If you are looking for a fun and different winter activity, please join us.  To register, email HaddamPack40@gmail.com 

The cost is $10 per car.  Breakfast sandwiches, donuts, and coffee will be available for sale on race day.

Pinewood Derby car kits and accessories can easily be purchased from Amato’s Toy and Hobby in Middletown, at the Killingworth True Value, or online.  The Pinewood Derby Outlaw Race rules are listed below.

  • All vehicles must fit in the length, width, & height box (7” L x 2¾” W x 4” H)
  • All vehicles must clear the center guide strip of the track (⅜” H x 1¾” W)
  • Vehicles must weight 6.25 oz. or less
  • All decorations/attachments must be securely affixed
  • Transferring dry weights ARE permitted.  NO liquid weights are allowed
  • “Pre-cut” kit vehicles will be allowed
  • The axles can be machined/polished
  • The wheels can be sanded, machined or changed, as long as vehicle has the correct clearances
  • No lubricating oil allowed.  Only graphite powder
  • The vehicle must be freewheeling with NO type of motors, engines, rocket engines or other propulsion may be used.
