KWO Hosts Reading Event at KES for “Giving Tuesday”

Submitted by Jessie Ford

(December 3, 2025) — For the third year, the Killingworth Women’s Organization (KWO) visited Killingworth Elementary School (KES) on “Giving Tuesday,” December 2, 2025, to donate their time reading a story to every classroom. KWO also brought breakfast goodies for the staff and raised money to help KES purchase books for its students.

Students were encouraged to donate $1 to dress up like their favorite book character to celebrate their love of books. All proceeds from the school and online donations go toward the fund to purchase books. So far, this event overall has raised more than $1,500 for KES to buy books and they hope it continues to grow.

This “Giving Tuesday” event is a favorite year after year, not only raising funds but also attracting more than twenty volunteers each time. It’s a wonderful event to bring together our community while raising money as well.

An important part of this event is the ability to teach children what “Giving Tuesday” is all about while the readers are in the classroom, as well as to share all the wonderful things KWO does for our community. They hope to have inspired our young ones to always remember to give back and make time for community.

Donations are still being accepted. Anyone interested in donating to this Giving Tuesday cause can go here: https://www.kwoct.org/donation/
