Discover Our Databases – Wednesday, November 5, 2025, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The library offers some great content through its website: language learning, job hunting, downloadable e-content, consumer information, and world recipes. This session of Tips & Tricks will provide an overview of each resource, plus directions for logging in from home. If we have time, we’ll give a brief overview of other content you can find on our webpage.
Introduction to Local History and Genealogy Resources – Wednesday, November 19, 2025, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Interested in exploring local history? Looking to build your family tree or find your roots? The library can get you started. This session of Tips & Tricks will introduce you to two in-house databases: Godfrey Scholar and FamilySearch. We’ll also explore online resources available at the Connecticut State Library, plus print materials from our collection.
We’ll have four laptops available for hands-on practice, but you’re welcome to bring your own (or a mobile device). Space is limited to six attendees. We’ll be in touch once you register, to make sure you have a library card to use for placing reserves. Please register in advance.

Foraging 101 – Wednesday, November 5, 2025, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you’ve ever had an interest in foraging your local woods, here’s where to start. Gina Pagano will teach us what to look for and where, tools of the trade, and safety do’s and don’ts. She will also bring some things that she’s made with foraged items. This program will include a presentation and a Q&A section, and participants will get handouts with more information. Please register to save your seat.

Tweens Writing – Friday, November 7, 2025. 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Here’s a chance for tweens (ages 9-12) to write and share their stories with others. We will explore different kinds of narratives, including horror. Sessions start with free writes, followed by a chance to share your story with the group. Note: sharing is not required, only if you’re ready. Space is limited, so please register in advance.

Art for All: Acrylic Pouring – Monday, November 10, 2025, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Acrylic pouring is a fluid art technique, where a pouring medium is mixed with acrylic paint to reduce its viscosity, then is poured onto a canvas and manipulated by tilting or other methods to create patterns and designs. This is an easy, fun technique in creating colorful, abstract art. Artists can apply color in puddles, pools, and marble-like patterns. In this demonstration, we will explore a variety of pouring techniques using canvas as a base and moving paint by tilting, scraping, or creating designs with a palette knife. Helen Hadley, a retiree who paints and donates proceeds of her sales to breast cancer research, will bring humor and tips to the fun demonstration. Suitable for adults and seniors. Space is limited, so please register in advance.

Cuddly Critters Meet & Greet – Wednesday, November 12, 2025 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Join us for this special opportunity to meet and learn about all sorts of cuddly critters! Xen’s Critters will be bringing an assortment of animals like a ferret, chinchilla, hedgehog, bunny, and more. Their animal specialist will be giving a one-hour presentation, with lots of interaction between kids and creatures! We will be meeting in the children’s room, so space will be limited. Please register to save your spot.

Adult Movie Night – Wednesday, November 12, 2025, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Join us for a free movie viewing! We meet in the adult reading area after the library closes at 6:00 p.m. Feel free to bring your own snacks and (covered, non-alcoholic) drinks. Please contact the library or visit the Calendar on our website for this month’s title, and please register to reserve your seat.

Pajama Storytime – Thursday, November 13, 2025, 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Come dressed in your pj’s, bring your favorite stuffed animal and blanket, and get ready to cuddle! Mrs. Fig will share seasonal stories, engaging readers with sound effects, movement, and puppets. Family members of all ages are welcome. Please register in advance, so we know how many friends to expect.

Cookbook Club – Thursday, November 13, 2025, 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. On the second Thursday of each month, we will choose the cuisine of one country to explore. Each club member will cook a dish from that country to bring in and share. We will gather, try the various foods, and discuss. If you’re interested in joining, please register on the library calendar, and please also email Ben at bsodergren@killingworthlibrary.org to learn the country for this month. With your Killingworth library card, you can access the A-Z World Food database. This is a great resource for learning about different countries’ food cultures and finding recipes. If you prefer, the library can also help you find a cookbook, or you may use your own recipe. Dishes don’t need to be complicated or fancy! Please keep in mind that the library does not have the ability to reheat food or keep it warm. We will provide disposable dinnerware, but please bring your own serving utensils; and feel free to bring your own dishes or a mess kit, to combat waste. Note: This is a potluck event and recipes will be prepared in personal kitchens. Eat at your own discretion.

Writers Writing – Fridays, November 14, 2025 and November 28, 2025, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. “Writers Writing” is an ongoing program for adults that explores different genres of writing. We start with free writes, followed by revision assignments, with weekly opportunities to share work with others. Note: sharing is not required – shyness and uncertainty are always welcome. This is a very popular program, so please register to reserve your seat.

Exploring Early Connecticut Mills – Friday, November 14, 2025, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you go looking for Killingworth’s old mills today, you’ll find rocks, trees, and crumbling foundations. What used to stand there? What industries did they power, and how did they work? Kelvin Cole will be bringing us his own photos of Connecticut’s early mills and taking us inside to explore their workings. The talk will include a slide show and time for questions. This program is co-sponsored by Killingworth’s Historic Review Committee. Please register to save your seat.

Space is limited, so please register in advance.
