Editor’s Note: HK-Now.com and Haddam Killingworth News asked candidates for the Regional School District 17 Board of Education to provide brief biographies as a way of introducing themselves to voters. The statement below is from BOE member Lisa Connelly of Killingworth, who is running for re-election. The candidate’s reply is unchanged from the original as submitted. My name is Lisa Connelly, and I am honored to seek re-election to the Haddam-Killingworth Board of Education (RSD17 BOE).
Over the past four years, I have served on the Communications Subcommittee (Chair), Policy Subcommittee, Curriculum Subcommittee, and Facilities Subcommittee. I helped shape the District’s Strategic Plan, served on the HKHS Facilities Study Team, and participated in the Superintendent Search Committee.
Fiscal responsibility is a priority in every decision I make. I support budgets that strengthen academic programs, attract and retain excellent teachers, and maintain safe, modern facilities — all while limiting unnecessary spending and keeping tax impacts reasonable.
As both a Board member and parent of HK graduates, I have seen how individualized learning inspires students. My son thrived in Project Lead the Way, developing problem-solving and technology skills, while my daughter excelled in UCONN and AP courses that prepared her for college and beyond. I champion programs that allow students to explore their interests, gain real-world experience through internships, and graduate ready for success.
I respectfully ask for your vote so we can continue to build a school system that values every child and invests responsibly in our future.
