Programs and Events at Brainerd Memorial Library, October 2025

(October 3, 2025) — The following programs and events will take place at Brainerd Memorial Library in Haddam during the month of October 2025. If you have questions regarding programs, please visit the library’s website – brainerdlibrary.org – or call 860-345-2204 during open hours. Brainerd Library’s weekly schedule is as follows: M 10-6PM, Tu 10-8PM, W 10-8PM, Th 10-8PM, F 10-6PM, Sat 10-3PM. You can find us at 920 Saybrook Road in Haddam. Hope to see you soon!

All Ages Programs

Costume Swap – Saturday Oct. 4 at 11AM-1PM: Join us for an all-ages costume swap. Bring gently used costumes and accessories, and leave with some too!

International Observe the Moon Night – Saturday Oct. 4 at 7:30PM: Come observe the moon with a guide and learn about this space rock!

Pumpkin Carving Extravaganza – Wednesday Oct. 15 at 6PM: Come one, come all, to this all-ages pumpkin carving event! Pumpkins and carving tools provided. All folks welcome!

Brainerd Family Movie Night – Wednesday Oct. 22 at 6PM: Come join us for free popcorn and a movie! This month we’re screening everyone’s favorite spooky family, The Addams Family (2019). They’re always good for plenty of laughs and Halloween spirit.

Halloween Party & Costume Contest – Wednesday Oct. 29 at 6PM-8PM: Wear your best costume and compete! Join us for treats, celebration, and get stoked for All Hallow’s Eve.

Adult Programs

Jigsaw Puzzle Club – Tuesday Oct. 7 & 21 at 1PM: Join us for the new Jigsaw Puzzle Club. This is a drop-in event, no signup necessary. Work on a jigsaw puzzle provided by Brainerd Library, and bring a puzzle to swap with other puzzlers if you wish!

Culinary Club – Wednesday Oct 8 at 6:30PM: Come join this fun potluck program! October’s theme is “deceptive food.” Cook something fun and share it!

Jamming with Jenny – Wednesday Oct. 15 at 6PM: A crafting group for meeting new friends and making fun things. Come join us this month to create fun seasonal coasters out of felt!

Drop-In Crafting – Wednesday Oct. 15 at 2PM: Drop in for this casual adult crafting group. This month’s craft is a surprise! (TBD)

Teen Programs

Teen Game Night – Tuesday Oct. 7 at 5:30PM: Hang out, play Nintendo Switch, board games, & chill! Grades 6-12.

Teen Dungeons & Dragons – Tuesday Oct. 14 & 28 at 5:30PM: Join and experience epic adventures! For new and old players alike.

Teen Taste Test Showdown: Halloween Candy Edition – Tuesday Oct. 21 at 5:30PM: Come try a bevy of candy and decide your favorite delicious Halloween treat!

Tween Switch Game Night – Friday Oct. 29 at 5:30PM: Come hang out with other tweens, crush some Super Smash Brothers or Mariokart, and make new friends.

Kids Programs

Preschool Storytime – Tuesdays at 10AM: Join us for our weekly storytime filled with interactive storytelling fun!

Toddler Tunes – Thursdays at 10AM: A sing-a-long with live music and fun weekly themes.

Kids Board Game Night – Wednesday Oct. 15 at 4:30PM: Elementary age kids can join us for an hour of fun and family-friendly board games, from classics like Connect Four to newer games just waiting to become your family’s next favorite.

Kids Dungeons & Dragons – Ages 7-10 Tuesday Oct 7 & 21 at 4:30PM, Ages 11-13 Tuesday Oct. 14 & 28 at 4:30PM: Join us at the Brainerd House School of Magical Mysteries for a fun D&D adventure! Age groups will alternate every Tuesday. No experience necessary.

Pokémon Club – Wednesday Oct. 8 & 22 at 4:30PM: A club for kids who love Pokémon. Trivia & Prizes! Fat Pikachus! Bring your game and/or cards. Trading allowed with adult permission.

Dice Lab – Friday Oct. 24 at 4:30PM: Learn to craft dice and miniatures with a 3-D printer, a Cricut & more!

Community Book Clubs:

Brainerd Book Club – Wednesday Oct. 22 at 6:30PM: A long-standing book club for fiction lovers. Currently Reading: Persuasion by Jane Austen

Senior Center Mystery Club* – Monday Oct. 27 at 1PM: Older mystery lovers can now join this fun mystery book club. Books are picked up at Brainerd. Currently Reading: The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver *This club meets at the Haddam Senior Center.
