To those who do not know me, my name is Ryan Thompson, I am 21 years old, and I am
running for a position on the Haddam Board of Finance. I wanted to write this letter to the editor to offer my biography as a candidate to the people of Haddam.
As a senior at Central Connecticut State University, I have been majoring and researching
topics in Political Science while double minoring in History and East Asian Studies. During my studies, I have worked with professors to research topics such as elections, campaign messaging, and efficacy in governmental services.
For the past two years, I have served as an alternate on the Board of Finance. During this
time, I have grown a deeper respect and deeper understanding of the processes of the Board and the institutions of small town government.
Growing up, I was taught the importance of community and to always offer a helping
hand. My father, Tommy Thompson, has lived in this town his entire life, volunteering for
different organizations, coaching local teams, and now works at the Town Garage. My mother, Shelly Thompson, works as a teacher in our school district. I know what serving your community looks like, and I am ready to pick up the torch.
Fred Rogers used to say “Look for the helpers.” I am honored to be endorsed alongside a
slate of candidates who I consider to be helpers. So on November 4th, when you head to the ballot box, all I will ask you to do is what Fred Rogers would ask you to do: look for the helpers.
Ryan Thompson, Haddam
