(August 25, 2025) — The following is a listing of programs and events at Killingworth Library during the month of September, 2025. For programs that require pre-registration, visit the Calendar on the library’s website – killingworthlibrary.org – or call 860-663-2000.

Library News

The library will be closed on Monday, September 1, 2025 for the Labor Day holiday.

Fundraiser: Killingworth Library’s Annual Book Sale – Saturday, September 13, 2025 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Join us for our Annual Book Sale! We have a great selection of fiction, nonfiction, hardcovers, paperbacks, large print, and children’s books, along with an assortment of puzzles and games. You’re sure to find something you love. Held rain or shine, in the library’s meeting room (and a couple of spots under pop-up tents).
If you would like to donate to our sale, please bring items to the circulation desk during library open hours. Materials must be in good, salable condition – no mold, tears, chews, minimal underlining, and no textbooks or encyclopedias, please. We may stop taking donations about a week before the sale, to allow time for sorting and organization. Thanks!

Library Programs

Tales for Tots – Tuesdays, starting September 2, 2025 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Storytime with Mrs. Fig, for children ages birth to five years old. We’ll learn rhymes, wiggle and move, and hear some stories to engage pre-readers. Please register for each session you can attend.

Connecticut Goes to War: 80th Anniversary Tribute – Tuesday, September 2, 2025 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Presenter Phil Devlin shares fascinating stories of Connecticut’s involvement in World War II: Connecticut soldiers buried in the famous American cemetery in Normandy; General Maurice Rose of Middletown, the highest-ranking American general killed in the war, who served under General George Patton; the six Fuller brothers from Suffield who served in the war;  the story of Ulmont Whitehead of Hartford, killed aboard the USS Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor; the creation of Bradley Field and the people who trained there…and more. This event is a continuation of Phil Devlin’s discussion of Connecticut’s role in WWII on this past June 24. You do not need to have attended the first event to join us at this one. Space is limited, so please register in advance.

Adult Movie Night – Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Join us on the first Wednesday of every month for our free adult movie nights! We meet in the adult reading area after the library closes at 6:00 p.m. Feel free to bring your own snacks and (covered, non-alcoholic) drinks. Please contact the library or visit the Calendar on our website for this month’s title, and please register to reserve your seat.

Minecraft Club for Tweens – Thursdays, starting September 4, 2025, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This program is geared toward tweens ages 9 – 12. Meet new friends, explore, slay monsters, and build a beautiful base in our very own survival world! For this program, we will be playing on Minecraft Bedrock Edition, available on Windows, iOS, and Android. The library has a very limited number of devices with Minecraft installed. If you can bring your own laptop or tablet with Minecraft, we would greatly appreciate it; this will help more kids sign up for the program. If the program fills up and you want to join, please add your name to the waitlist. We will be checking the sign-ups to see how many players require library devices. Depending on how many we have available, we will pull in as many players from the waitlist as we can. You will need to sign up individually for each session you plan to attend. This session of Minecraft Club will run until December 11, 2025. (Note: We will not meet on the third Thursdays of the month).

First Saturday Crafts – Saturday, September 6, 2025 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children ages 6 to 10 are invited to join Mrs. Nelson in the library’s meeting room for a craft program! This event will meet on the first Saturday of every month. Celebrate September by designing a greeting card with a Nancy Elizabeth Wallace apple tree collage on the front. We’ll have samples of Wallace’s storybook artwork to get you inspired! Supplies are limited, so please register in advance.

Surprise Saturday with Mrs. Fig – Saturdays, starting September 6, 2025 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We’ll kick off our time together with a story, then we’ll do a craft, try an experiment, or explore a STEM/STEAM activity. What’s it going to be? Come and see! (Visit the Calendar on the library’s website for a clue about each week’s theme.) Suitable for children up to age 5. Space and supplies are limited, so please register in advance.

Art for All: Miniature Letter in a Bottle – Monday, September 8, 2025, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30p.m. Say good-bye to the lazy, hazy days of summer – make a wish, write a letter to your future self, or send a hello to a special someone. Supplies will be provided for this craft, as well as for collage-making. Suitable for adults and seniors. Space is limited, so please register in advance.

Each participant can design up to five cards using a variety of leaves and then embellish the cards by using ink stamps with words of inspiration for a finishing touch. This program is free for attendees, and all materials will be provided. Space is limited, so please register in advance.

Reading Dragons Deck Box Craft – Thursday, September 18, 2025 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Our Reading Dragons participants have been collecting cards all summer; now they need a home for them! Stop by the library to cut, color and fold your own Reading Dragons deck boxes. This is a drop-in craft, so no need to register or bring anything other than your creativity! If you can’t make it, we’ll have leftover materials for you to take home and work on at your own pace.
