(August 10, 2025) — In 2005 a group of women who enjoy knitting and crocheting as well as helping others was interested in getting together and the library seemed to be centrally located and perfect if we were numerous in attendance. The Brainerd Library Knitters were formed with the intent of making things for organizations and groups in the local area. We worked with Middlesex Hospital, the VFW and Haddam Public Health (now known as Haddam Social Services) and others as needed. We met in the community room downstairs on the first Tuesday of every month.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, things changed, but we continued knitting and meeting around town to get our items delivered to whoever needed them. Due to recent renovations we relocated to the Thankful Arnold House (a huge thanks to Director Lisa Malloy), but on September 2, 2025, we will be returning to the library.
We still meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in one of the new meeting rooms. Please come and join us. We have patterns, ideas, and occasionally donations of yarn come our way to use. We work on our own during the month and get together to share the finished products. We knit and crochet while we enjoy each other’s company.
