Letter to the Editor: 0.04% Change Isn’t Enough. Why the BOE Budget Still Misses the Mark

As members of the community, we all agree on the importance of quality public education.  We want our students to succeed, our teachers to be supported, and our schools to be strong.  But the proposed BOE budget, while slightly reduced from a 4.48% to a 4.4% increase still fails to address the core issues that affect both our classrooms and our community’s financial future.

This minor decrease does nothing to confront the bigger problem: an unsustainable pattern of administrative expansion and rising overhead.  Without significant changes, this trajectory will continue to divert resources from where they are needed most: our students and teachers.

A responsible budget would:

-reduce administrative costs and further expansion

-prioritize direct to student investments

-increase support for teachers including classroom resources

-maintain our schools.
