Killingworth Transfer Station Supports Local Scouts Through Bottle/Can Redemption

Submitted by Mia Merrel

(March 25, 2025) — The Killingworth Transfer Station has been making a difference in the community by collecting redemption bottles and donating the proceeds to local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. This initiative not only encourages recycling but also provides valuable support to youth programs that teach leadership, teamwork and community service.

Residents of Killingworth can participate by dropping off their redeemable bottles and cans at the Transfer Station instead of throwing them away. The funds generated from these recyclables go directly to local scouting organizations, helping to fund activities, community projects and educational experiences for the scouts.

By choosing to donate their bottles, Killingworth residents are playing a part in both environmental conservation and youth development. It’s a simple yet impactful way to give back to the community while keeping recyclable materials out of landfills.

For those who use the Transfer Station regularly, setting aside bottles for donation is an easy habit that can make a big difference. This program is a perfect example of how small actions can collectively contribute to a greater good.

Next time you visit the Killingworth Transfer Station, consider dropping off your redemption bottles and cans. Your contribution helps shape the next generation of leaders!
