(January 6, 2025) — The Connecticut Department of Transportation advises the following construction activities at the Haddam/East Haddam Swing Bridge (Route 82) for the upcoming week of January 6, 2025:
Overnight Bridge Closures
The contractor has scheduled overnight bridge closures this week as follows:
- Monday night (1/6/25) into Tuesday morning (1/7/25) – 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
- Tuesday night (1/7/25) into Wednesday morning (1/8/25) – 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Bridge Swing Testing
- The Contractor will perform occasional daytime swing testing Monday through Friday, and occasional nighttime swing testing Wednesday through Friday of this week. Travel delays should be expected during each test run.
Lane Closures
- Single lane closures on Route 82 will occur Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. within the project limits. Traffic flaggers will coordinate the alternating traffic sequence.
- Both lanes will be reopened and operational during peak traffic hours.
Marine Advisory
Boaters are advised that as of December 1, 2024, the bridge no longer opens for tall recreational vessels. Openings will resume on February 15, 2025.
Mariners are advised that the contractor’s suspended scaffold has been removed from spans 3 and 4. The contractor still has scaffolding hung in span 2.
The tide clearance board is recommended as the best reference for gauging clearance at time of passage. The board is located on the bulkhead at Goodspeed, and has been set to indicate the vertical clearance to the contractor’s suspended scaffold.
The bridge operator can be reached at 860-218-4973. Please be advised that this phone number is designated for marine use only.
