CALL FOR ARTISTS Holiday Gallery Show: Let There Be Love

Spectrum Gallery seeks representational and abstract art in all mediums (including photography) for its most popular show of the year, the Holiday Show: Let There Be Love. As we close out 2024, the world trembles with wars, racism, health, and climate change catastrophes. Yet, we still hope compassion, empathy, and love exist. Exhibit runs November 22, 2024 through January 11, 2025 with artwork being received between November 10, 2024 and November 14, 2024. Spectrum’s Artisans Store seeks fine crafts in wood, ceramic, pottery, glass, paper, fabric, jewelry design and more for holiday gift giving. The Gallery also seeks submissions of handmade ornaments for its six-foot Holiday Tree.

In Gallery: Nuno Wet-Felted Scarf Workshop

Create a lightweight scarf made with silk gauze and fine, colorful merino wool using wet felting method which can be combined with other felting techniques. Use merino wool roving, several yards of special gauze silk, yarn, and various embellishments. After initial fabrication, scarves will be rolled for fifteen minutes in four directions and then “thrown” in hot water. Workshop starts with brainstorming before creating “pre-felts.” Shape, form, and various textures as they apply to making a beautiful, flowing scarf discussed. Choose a color palette before learning the “ins and outs” of wet felting. Bring extra yarns, beads, or threads you might want to use for felting your scarf and bring a small sketch book or notepad.  All levels welcome. Sunday, October 27, 2024. 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. $60. Plus $20 material fee paid to instructor. Members save $6.

In Gallery: Whimsical Fairy House and Keepsake Picture Frame Workshop

Create a keepsake picture frame and a small New England style fairy house using natural materials gathered from local beaches and forests. As the holidays approach, these pieces will make heartfelt gifts for your loved ones or unique pieces for your own collection. Use sea glass, shells, twigs and bark from New England to build one-of-a-kind pieces held together with hot glue. Be sure to wear your “artist” outfit complete with apron and prepare to get a bit messy as the instructor walks you through the steps to create these keepsakes. Clippers, hot glue guns, glue sticks and materials provided but bring sea glass, shells, rocks or other small items to incorporate into your design. All levels welcome. Sunday, November 3, 2024. 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. $50. Plus $15 material fee paid to instructor. Members save $5.
