Cross Country 2024: HKHS Teams Place First and Second in New York Showcase Invitational

(September 30, 2024) — The Haddam Killingworth High School Boys and Girls cross country teams traveled to Montgomery, New York on September 28, 2024 to compete in the New York Night-Time Showcase in a meet under the lights.

The Boys Varsity team won their first invitational of the year, scoring a mere 29 team points to easily outdistance the other teams in the field. They were led again by Senior co-captain Jack Cozean, who placed 3rd in the race at 12:59 for the 2.5 mile course.  Following him was Junior Alex Fredericksen 5th (13:43), and then a pack of Cougars within one second of each other: Junior Cash Smigel 6th (13:48), Sophomore Evan Berardino 7th (13:48) and Junior Anthony Fredericksen 8th (13:49).  The Boys JV team also came away with the team victory as they scored 39 points and were led by Freshman Fischer Norton, who placed 2nd in a time of 14:55, and Sophomore Paul Birkmeyer, who placed 3rd (14:59).

The HKHS Girls team once again ran well to place second as a team in the Varsity race with 43 points.  The girls were led by Junior Grace Mitchell, who placed 4th in a time of 15:45.  Next for H-K was Sophomore Charlotte Behnke, who crossed the line in a time of 16:06 to place 7th in the race.  She was followed by Junior Julia Downing 10th (16:39),  Junior Amelia Riggs 13th (16:52) and Senior Keira Sehl-Albert 14th (16:58) to round out the team scoring. 
The HKHS Cross Country teams will next be in action on Saturday, October 5, 2024, as they travel to Brewster, New York to compete in the Brewster Bears Invitational.
