Football 2024: HKHS Defeats Stafford Co-Op 21-7

By Barth Keck
(September 24, 2024) — Joe Slane caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bryce LaCoss, and Tyler Napierkowski and Josh Frith scored rushing touchdowns of one yard and two yards, respectively, to lead the Haddam Killingworth High School football team (1-1) to a 21-7 win over Stafford/East/Windsor/Somers (1-1) in a game played in Higganum on September 20, 2024. Kaiden Jellison had the lone score for the Bulldogs with a 28-yard touchdown reception from Luca Houle.
The Cougars jumped out to a 14-0 lead with touchdowns by Slane and Napierkowski, but the Stafford co-op tightened the game with the touchdown catch by Jellison late in the first half.
The Cougar defense stiffened and the offense took control of the game with a punishing and time-consuming running game in the second half, highlighted by Frith’s two-yard plunge. Daniel Cavrell was three-for-three on extra points.
“Stafford is a well-coached team, so our preparation and game-planning needed to be very sound,” said HK Head Coach Tyler Wilcox. “I was proud of the kids for playing hard all game and executing the game plan effectively.” The Cougars’ next game is Friday, September 27, 2024 at HKHS against Weaver High School. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
