Cross Country 2024: HKHS Teams Dominate the Manchester Invitational

(September 24, 2024) — The Haddam-Killingworth High School Boys and Girls cross country teams traveled to Manchester, New Hampshire on September 21, 2024 to compete in the Manchester Invitational against more than eighty teams from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut .

The Girls team once again had a great day on the hilly 3.1 mile course to place first overall as a team in the Small Schools varsity race with 82 points.  The girls were led by Sophomore Charlotte Behnke who crossed the line in a time of 21:14 to place 12th in the race.  She was followed by teammate Junior Grace Mitchell who ran 21:27 to place 16th.  Next to cross the line was Junior Julia Downing 28th (22:05), Senior co-captain Keira Sehl-Albert 30th (22:06)  and Junior Amelia Riggs 33rd (22:09) to round out the team scoring.

The Boys team, missing one of its top runners, also had a solid race as they placed fourth out of 41 teams in their race scoring 178 points.  They were led by Senior co-captain Jack Cozean who placed nineteenth in the race with a time of 17:28.  Following him was Junior Alex Fredericksen 31st (17:53), Sophomore Evan Berardino 42nd (18:16), Junior Anthony Fredericksen 49th (18:27) and Junior Cash Smigel 52nd (18:30).

 
The Cross Country team will next be in action on Tuesday September 24, 2024, as they travel to Cromwell High School to compete in the Shoreline Large School league meet, and then on Saturday September 28, 2024 they will travel to Montgomery, New York to compete in the New York Night Time Showcase.
