Football 2024: HKHS Falls to Capital Prep

By Barth Keck

(September 13, 2024)— Hashim Jones had touchdown runs of 40 yards and 21 yards for Capital Prep to lead the Trailblazers (1-0) to a 19-13 win over Haddam Killingworth High School in a game played on September 13, 2024.

For the Cougars (0-1), Jamien Evans threw touchdown passes of 11 yards and 31 yards to Josh Frith and Joe Slane, respectively. Frith also had an interception for HK.

Capital Prep got out to a 19-0 lead by early in the third quarter, but the Cougars fought back with two third-quarter touchdowns to cut the lead to one score. From that point, both teams played tough defense to prevent further scoring and HKHS came up just short in its comeback bid.
“This game was a tale of two halves,” said HK Head Coach Tyler Wilcox. “The team showed its heart in the second half. We just have to find a way to get over the hump. Now, the first game is over and we move on.” The Cougars host Stafford/Somers/East Windsor in their next game, a home contest at 6:30 p.m. on September 20, 2024.
