Summary: Haddam Board of Selectmen Meeting, September 9, 2024

(September 11, 2024) — The regular meeting of Haddam’s Board of Selectmen on September 9, 2024, was called to order by First Selectman Robert McGarry at 6:30 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam. Selectmen Kate Anderson and Peter Baird were present.

First Selectman McGarry provided the following updates:

– Water blasting will be used for removing lead paint on the walls at Scovil Hoe.

– A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new playscape will be held on September 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

– Swing Bridge will open for vessel traffic every hour as needed.

– The contractor is removing existing pavement on Route 154 (Saybrook Road) south of the Route 82 connector and temporarily replacing it with a gravel mix.

– Blueway Commons was issued a foundation permit for Phase 2 of a 32-unit apartment building.

– Bridge Road Commons was issued a temporary certificate of occupancy for apartments in the West building.

– Union members accepted the CSEA contract.

– After interviewing five candidates on August 23, 2024, a panel selected Trooper Vargas for the position of Resident State Trooper.

– Twenty-six votes were cast in the seven days of early voting in the Republican Primary, which resulted in labor costs of $300 per ballot.

– Early voting for the election of President and Vice-President, Representative in Congress, U.S. Senator, State Senator, State Representative and Registrar of Voters elections starts on October 21, 2024.

A Public Hearing is scheduled for September 19, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Town Meeting at 7:00 p.m.

David Law was reappointed to the Haddam Park and Recreation Commission.

The next regular Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for October 15, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam. The meeting adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
