I am Kathryn Russell and I’m asking for your vote to become your State Representative.

I’ve talked with so many Haddam and Higganum residents at the Saturday Farmers Market, the Haddam Neck Fair, and while door knocking these past several months.  Thank you for sharing your current challenges and thoughts about where you think your State Rep could help.

You’ve told me that affordability, the cost of energy and high housing costs are your top concerns.  Your input has shaped and refined my thinking: my focus as your State Rep will be in the areas of affordability, community safety and natural resource protection.

Currently, I am a Selectwoman in Deep River, having had a successful business career. I am solidly rooted in our district, and have owned my home in Deep River for over 20 years.  My professional business experience developed key skills which I will bring to the state legislature: financial literacy, strategic thinking, conflict resolution and the ability to build consensus. As a fiscal conservative, I will always protect your bottom line.  I plan to apply practical fiscal discipline to support policies designed to make our communities more affordable, and will review every piece of legislation through the critical lens of how it will impact the budget of the average family and retiree in our four towns.

Our police and first responders deserve the resources they need to protect our towns, I will support state legislation to fund our police, fire and ambulance departments and advocate for laws that make it easier for them to do their jobs and keep our communities safe.  I will prioritize community safety and work to reduce speeding and crime in our towns.

An additional priority of mine is natural resource protection.  Maintaining the quality of life we enjoy  means conserving and protecting our precious natural resources.  I will do so in a manner that also protects our businesses and local economies.

I am eager to put my skills, values, energy and caring heart to work for you. Please vote for me to be your State Representative.

Kathryn Russell, Republican Candidate for State Representative, 36th Assembly District
