Young Performers Wanted for Circophony 2024 Teen Circus at Oddfellows Playhouse

Submitted by Dic Wheeler, Oddfellows Playhouse

(September 4, 2024) — Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown announces auditions for Circophony Teen Circus, an Oddfellows/ARTFARM collaboration directed by Dic Wheeler, with Naja Muller and Joel Melendez.

Auditions will be held on September 17, 2024 and September 18, 2024 for performers, athletes and acrobats ages 12 – 20 looking for a unique and challenging circus experience this season.

Circus is a great “next level” experience for dancers, acrobats, actors, clowns, physical performers, athletes, parkouristas, or any young person looking for a physical challenge and a powerful ensemble experience.

The Fall program will combine training, show creation, and rehearsal. The performance will be a theme-based culmination of the skills acquired over the course of the Fall classes. Circophony is a blend of acrobatic training, object manipulation, physical theater and hard work!

Training will include acrobatics, strength and flexibility, juggling, unicycling, stilt dancing, movement, clowning and ensemble performance. Students in this program work as a team to create exciting feats of daring and comedy alike. Prior experience is not required. A willingness to work hard and work together is.

Auditions will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Oddfellows Playhouse, 128 Washington Street, Middletown.

Anyone wishing to audition should:

*Register for one of the two evenings at www.oddfellows.org

*Arrive on time, dress to circus, expect to be barefoot, and be prepared to stay the entire two hours

*Open to anyone ages 12 – 20

*There is no cost to audition

Rehearsals begin September 24, 2024 and will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. until November 20, 2024. After a break for Thanksgiving week, the program will resume on December 3, 2024 with rehearsals expanding to 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at that point.

The final December rehearsal will be December 18, 2024 and rehearsals will begin again starting January 7, 2025. Performance dates are January 30, 2025 to February 1, 2025. The performance will then be available to tour local schools and community centers from February through May, 2025.

Tuition for Circophony is $350, which covers the entire program from September through the Spring tour. Financial aid or work-study are available for all who need it.

Email info@oddfellows.org to register for one of the two auditions, or call (860) 347-6143 for more information.
