Voices Wanted: Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords Seeks Altos, Tenors and Basses

Submitted by Kate Porch, Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords

(August 12, 2024) — Are you looking to find a new experience that will lift your spirit, heal your soul, and relieve stress/anxiety, all while making new friends?

Numerous studies prove that singing in a choir can reduce the stress hormone cortisol and increase the comforting hormone oxytocin. Singing in a choir also has cognitive and physical benefits including better verbal fluency and increased lung capacity.

Get all these benefits by joining our Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords family under the direction of musical director Samuel Tucker and accompanied by an eight-piece orchestra directed by the talented Alan Dougherty. Join today. No auditions necessary!

But don’t take our word for it. See what our members have to say:

Kurt (Colchester): “I joined one month after the death of my wife, Joan. Over our 41 years of marriage, we regularly sang in quartets, mixed barbershop, and other small and large choirs. Since she passed, I have found that while singing in a choir my grief disappears, allowing me to be free of that pain. Singing with others brings joy and belonging, new friendships, and an opportunity to encourage others.”

Steve (Middletown): “I was first introduced to Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords by two present members, Kimberly and Samantha, who I met at Rock Voices. From the time I went to practice, I was met by numerous members who reviewed everything with me. Everyone was warm and inviting. It was the moment I met Sam, the director, that I knew this was the place for me. I have made lifelong friends here. We bring joy to ourselves through our love of singing and joy to others at the phenomenal concerts. Thank you to everyone who makes the Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords the awesome experience I have the honor of being part of.”

Rehearsals begin Tuesday August 27, 2024 from 6:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Msgr. Fox Parish Hall, St. Francis Church, 10 Elm Street in Middletown for our upcoming winter concert on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Portland High School.

New members accepted through September 10, 2024. For more information, visit us on the web at vocalchords20.org or call Joyce at 860-342-3120.
