Submitted by Jackie MacKnight

(July 6, 2024) — The Haddam Neck Fair Association is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Haddam Neck Fair Association Scholarships. This year, scholarships have been awarded to two outstanding students who have
demonstrated exceptional dedication to their community, academic excellence, and active participation in the Haddam Neck Fair.

Sadie Harlow of Haddam (photo above) is a graduate of Haddam-Killingworth High School. Sadie has been deeply involved with the Haddam Neck Fair from a young age, initially helping with rabbit care and later taking on the responsibility of running the rabbit barn. Her contributions to the fair also include assisting with the setup and maintenance of various fairground facilities and participating in tractor pulling events.

Sadie’s volunteer efforts extend to her church community, where she has helped organize events and support local initiatives. She is set to continue her education at Middlesex Community College with an interest in becoming a Radiologic Technologist.

Aidan Maiorino of East Hampton (photo above) is a graduate of East Hampton High School. Aidan has been an invaluable member of the Haddam Neck Fair’s trash team, dedicating approximately twelve hours each year to managing waste and recycling in collaboration with the Boy Scouts.

His commitment to community service extends beyond the fairgrounds, as evidenced by his extensive involvement in the Boy Scouts of America, where he has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Aidan has also held leadership roles in the DECA Club and contributed to various local projects and events, such as the East Hampton Public Library Teen Advisory Board, and numerous cleanup and trail
maintenance initiatives. He plans to pursue a degree in Engineering or Robotics, with top choices being Olin College of Engineering and Worcester Polytechnic Institute
(WPI).

The Haddam Neck Fair Association is delighted to support these exceptional young individuals as they embark on their educational journeys. The scholarship program, which awards $500 to each recipient, aims to recognize and encourage the volunteer spirit and community involvement exemplified by Sadie and Aidan.

The Haddam Neck Fair Association is a community-based organization dedicated to preserving the agricultural heritage of the Haddam Neck region and fostering community spirit through its annual fair and other local events. The scholarship program is part of the association’s ongoing efforts to support the educational aspirations of local youth who contribute to the fair and the broader community.
