(June 19, 2024) — The first day of summer is June 20, 2024! Brainerd Memorial Library in Haddam begins its Summer Reading Program on June 24, 2024 and it runs until August 16, 2024.
This year’s program is for all ages, with signups divided into three age groups–Children, Teens, and Adults. (Yes! We are reintroducing Adult Summer Reading) Patrons can sign up now on our website, over the phone, or in person.   For the website, sign up here for all ages: https://brainerdlibrary.org/
Children: Choose a fun reusable bag with a folder inside upon signing up. The folder contains a pamphlet telling them how many minutes to read a day, as well as a sticker sheet and a reading log. We ask that kids read five days each week, and they can choose a prize from the prize chest at the Children’s Desk every week.
Teens: Receive a bingo sheet. The front side has squares to cross off, and the back side has blanks for them to write what they did to complete each square. Teens can show their bingo sheet with at least one newly completed activity each week to earn a ticket for the weekly raffle.   The weekly prizes are $20 gift cards to local businesses. Tweens can choose whether they want to participate in the Children’s or Teen program.
Adults: Choose a bingo sheet or a reading log, or both. Adults can show their sheet with at least one new bingo row, column, or diagonal completed each week or their reading log with at least one book read each week to earn a ticket for the weekly raffle. Each week we will have a $20 gift card from a local business.  Parents: sign up with your children!
We are looking forward to a fun summer with lots of books and programs.  Happy reading!
