Higganum Athlete Heads to National Field Hockey Championship

Submitted by Tammy Engler

(June 19, 2024) — Chloe Engler, a Haddam-Killingworth High School sophomore from Higganum, and her U16 club field hockey team, HTC, have qualified for the National Club Championship after the team placed in the top two in the Region 4 Club Championship tournament held June 8-9, 2024 at Sacred Heart in Greenwich.  HTC’s U19 and California’s U16 and U19 teams also qualified.

The Regional Club Championship hosted eight U16 teams and seven U19 teams from Connecticut and New York.  The top two teams in each age group move on to the National Championship, hosted by USA Field Hockey, which will be held June 22-June 30, 2024 at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center.

There will be twenty-four teams in each age group from across the country at the National Championship.  Chloe’s team will face clubs from Kentucky and Maryland in the first round of the tournament.  The top sixteen teams from the first round will move on to the Sweet Sixteen bracket.

HTC is based in Madison, with teams in Connecticut and California.  Players hail from five different states to attend practices and clinics.  Directed by former U.S. National Team member, Division I college coach, and two-time All-American player Debra Brickey, HTC’s mission is to increase overall skill level in all players.  HTC also has indoor field hockey teams, clinics and training sessions for players from Kindergarten to adult.
