Obituary: Robert Leonard Brown II

Robert Leonard Brown II, of Haddam, was born on June 8, 1969 and passed on May 22, 2024. He was 54 years old. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Leonard Brown, Senior and Judith Marie Tomzyck Brown, his brother Charles Robert Brown, and Matilda, his beloved dog.

Robert graduated from Morgan High School in Clinton, in 1987/1988. After high school, he joined an apprenticeship at the Maine Maritime Museum, working on and building boats. He was there from 1989 to 1991. Bob always loved boats and being on the water since he was a kid, when he was in the sea cadets.

Upon coming home, he began building furniture and even had his own shop in Clinton. Bob was a Master Craftsman when it came to working with wood. After he closed his shop, he worked in carpentry, but his knowledge was mostly used for intricate rooms and staircases, along with carpentry. When he decided that he had enough of carpentry, he went to work for Essex Steam Train, where he became a Trainman. He absolutely loved this job. He loved interacting with guests and learning about the mechanics of both the steam and diesel trains in the engine shop.

A couple of years ago, he became a Master Mason with Estuary Lodge #43, AF & AM, in Old Saybrook. He enjoyed being a part of this brotherhood and what the Masons stood for. Bob was the type of guy who would drop everything to help out a family member or friend, no questions asked. He loved hiking, camping, sailing, and in the past few years, developed a love of biking, especially Old English three-speed bikes. His favorite thing to do was to go “touring.”

Bob was loved by many and will be missed tremendously. He leaves behind his wife and love of his life of twenty-five years, Gayle (Forsberg); his brother, Jeffrey Brown (Laura); nieces, Renee Lockner (Ryan) and Ashlee Brown; nephew Shane Brown; and great-nephew Daniel; among cousins, aunts and uncles.

A service will be held at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home in Centerbrook, on Saturday June 15, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Red Cross.
