Summary of Haddam Board of Selectmen Meeting, June 10, 2024

(June 13, 2024) — The regular meeting of Haddam’s Board of Selectmen on June 10, 2024, was called to order by First Selectman Robert McGarry at 6:30 p.m. at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam. Selectmen Kate Anderson and Peter Baird were present.

During Public Comment, Illeana Douglas made a comment about the meeting held by the Town about one year ago at Haddam Elementary School. She requested that the referendum question be on the mailer that will be sent out to residents.

First Selectman McGarry provided the following updates:

  • The deadline to make a decision on the Rossi property in order to keep grant funding is September 30, 2024.
  • Parker Benjamin is evaluating bids for lead abatement at Scovil Hoe.
  • A Tylerville water preconstruction meeting for the 109 Little Meadow connection is scheduled for next week. First Selectman McGarry signed the paperwork for $109,000 from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development to finish the project.
  • On June 6, 2024, the Connecticut Siting Council voted unanimously to docket the Haddam Neck cell tower on their Decision and Order meeting in July.
  • Teamster contract negotiations are complete.
  • The Economic Development Commission has two openings.
  • A memorial service for Tracy Thompson, former tax assessment technician, will be held on June 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 905 Saybrook Road.
  • The Town received Sustainable CT Bronze Certification.
  • The Town budget was approved at the Town Meeting on May 21, 2024.
  • A contractor is interested in buying one or more of the five building lots on Silver Springs Drive that the Town accepted in lieu of foreclosure.

Selectman Anderson stated that round two of the Tylerville loan/grant applications are due today.

Selectman Baird made a motion to schedule a referendum for the vote on Haddam Elementary School on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. There was a brief discussion. Motion carried unanimously.

The next regular Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for July 8, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., at the Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam. The meeting adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
