Middlesex Health to Offer Paramedic Training Program

Submitted by Amanda Falcone

(March 14, 2024) — Middlesex Health is now accepting applications for its new Paramedic Training Program.

This program will feature hands-on training and a low student-to instructor ratio. The first cohort is set to begin this spring at the Middlesex Hospital campus in Middletown.

“Paramedics need a strong foundation, and we are in the unique position to help ensure that they get the training they need,” said Jim Santacroce, Middlesex Health’s emergency medical services manager. “By enrolling in our new Paramedic Education Program, individuals will benefit from working directly with physicians and other staff, and they will be exposed to various aspects of a health system, including the Emergency Department.”

Santacroce says offering a training program for paramedics makes sense, especially since Middlesex is expecting seven new ambulances by fiscal year 2025. Not only will the program help educate future paramedics — regardless of where they ultimately find employment — the program will also act as a way to attract capable future employees.

Middlesex Health’s new Paramedic Education Program is a 60-week commitment broken into four 15-week modules. It includes a field internship, and graduates of the program will be eligible for national paramedic credentialing through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

Admission into the Paramedic Education Program will be selective and prospective students must apply. Every year, Middlesex will admit a maximum cohort of 18 students. Tuition will be $11,500, which is all-inclusive — from books and uniforms to the instruction.

For those who wish to further their education, Charter Oak State College will grant college credits for the completion of the Paramedic Training Program upon acceptance to the college.

“Middlesex Health is known for excellence in patient care and satisfaction, and I am proud to be able to extend that culture of excellence into EMS education,”” says Kyle Goulet, the experienced paramedic and emergency medical services instructor who will lead Middlesex’s new training program. “Our mission is to provide students with a unique and student-centered learning environment in which they will gain the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to enter the workforce.”
