Spectrum Gallery Exhibit: Reaching for the Sky

Explore the wonder and vastness of “the sky” at Spectrum Gallery’s newest exhibit. For many cultures, the sky offers important meaning through the telling of time, changes in seasons, and clues to predict and navigate the weather. It has spawned legends and spiritual beliefs. Established and emerging artists present painting, sculpture, mixed media, and photography exploring this theme. Open Reception Friday, March 22, 2024 (6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.); Open House Weekend, Saturday, March 23, 2024 (1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and Sunday, March 24, 2024 (1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.) with wine and refreshments. Through May 11, 2024. Artisans Store offers pottery, glass, fiber, home décor, jewelry, and accessories. Current Exhibit, Life in the City through March 9.

Call for Artists! Essex Green Summer Arts Festival

Seeking artists and fine artisans for this outdoor arts festival on the Essex Town Green, Saturday, June 15, 2024 (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Sunday, June 16, 2024 (11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Call for Artists! Madison Green Autumn Arts Festival

Seeking artists and fine artisans for this outdoor festival on the Madison Town Green (Boston Post Road/Route 1 and Copse Road) Saturday, October 12, 2024 (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Sunday, October 13, 2024 (Noon to 5:00 p.m.); Rain Date: Monday, October 14, 2024 (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).  Fine artisans may submit work for consideration for sale in the Store at Spectrum Gallery. Adult Classes and Workshops

Classes and Workshops held online or at Spectrum Gallery at 61 Main Street, Centerbrook. Register and pay at spectrumartgallery.org. Spectrum Membership starting at $45 per year provides 10% discounts on art instruction and select Artisans Store items.

In Gallery: Floral Soap Workshop

Evoke the feeling of Spring while exercising your creative spirit. Learn to infuse soap with botanicals and scent them with essential oils. Natural clays will add color and healing benefits. Using a variety of molds, you will create your own flower-shaped soaps.  All levels welcome. Sunday, March 3, 2024. 1:00 -p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  $50, plus $10 materials fee paid to instructor. Members save $5.

In Gallery: Botanical Illustration with Watercolor Pencils

Explore watercolor pencil and color observation, color mixing and layering while combining with colored pencil to create detailed, vibrant drawings. Each week focus on a different color palette and botanical subject. The instructor will supply flowers. Leave the course with frameable art and the skills to create future masterpieces!  Material list sent upon registration. Thursdays, March 28; April 4, 11, 18. 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. $130. Members save $13.

 

In Gallery: Experience Watercolor — Beginner & Beyond

Get step-by-step instruction in the fundamentals of watercolor painting through demos and structured exercises.  Learn color mixing, dark and light, and basic color theory principles. Different brush stroke techniques are addressed for specific effects, i.e. wet on wet and dry stubble applications. Paint from still life setups and/or photo references from home. Participants are encouraged to work on an ongoing painting outside of class to help solidify learned techniques.  This piece may be brought into class on the last day for an open critique session. Material list sent upon registration. Fridays, March 29; April 5, 12, 19, 26. Make-up (if necessary) May 3, 2024. 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. $160 per person. Members save $16.
