(February 1, 2024) — The following events and programs will take place at Spectrum Gallery, 61 Main Street in Centerbrook during the month of February 2024:

Adult Classes and Workshops

Classes and Workshops held online or at Spectrum Gallery.  Register and pay at spectrumartgallery.org. Spectrum Membership starting at $45 per year provides a 10% discount on art instruction and select Artisans Store items.

In Gallery: Tree of Life Workshop

A unique experience awaits as we start with a guided meditation featuring Wind and Sun gongs, and Tibetan and Rin bowls to plant our seeds of intention for the year.  Instructor guides you through the neuro-graphic art process.  Get lost in line, shape, and color.  Ink pens and watercolor paints bring our trees and intentions to life.  Leave with an art kit and the skills to continue your neuro-graphic art journey at home.  Beginners welcome. Sunday, February 11, 2024. 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. $45. Plus $10 material fee paid to instructor. Members save $4.50.

In Gallery: Nuno Wet-Felted Scarf Workshop

Create a lightweight scarf made with silk gauze and fine, colorful merino wool using wet felting method which can be combined with other felting techniques.

Use merino wool roving, several yards of special gauze silk, yarn, and various embellishments. After initial fabrication, scarves are rolled for fifteen minutes in four directions and then “thrown” into hot water. Workshop starts with brainstorming before creating “pre-felts.” Shape, form, and various textures as they apply to making a beautiful, flowing scarf are discussed. Choose a color palette before learning the “ins and outs” of wet felting. Bring extra yarns, beads, or threads you might want to use for felting your scarf and bring a small sketch book or notepad.  All levels welcome. Sunday, February 18, 2024. 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. $60. Plus $20 material fee paid to instructor. Members save $6.

In Gallery: Introduction to Junk Journaling

Try your hand at junk journaling, a cross between scrapbooking and journaling. Create a keepsake designed by you and for you. Kit includes a blank journal, paper, washi tape, stickers, ephemera, and glue. Feel free to also bring your own ephemera. Focus of the workshop will be on the process and the examples of ephemera that can be included (journals not bound during workshop). Sunday, February 25, 2024, 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. $45. Plus $10 material fee paid to instructor. Members save $4.50.

In Gallery: Floral Soaps Workshop

Evoke the feeling of spring while exercising your creative spirit. Learn to infuse soap with botanicals and scent them with essential oils.

Natural clays will add color and healing benefits. Using a variety of molds, you will create your own flower-shaped soaps.  All levels welcome. Sunday, March 3, 2024. 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. $50. Plus $10 material fee paid to instructor Members save $5.
