Boys Basketball 2024: HKHS Edges Portland

(January 27, 2024) — The Haddam-Killingworth High School Boys Basketball team defeated Portland in a nail-biter on January 26, 2024, by a score of 58-55.

HKHS is now 8-3 on the season. The Cougars were led by junior Cody Robinson with 18 points. Andrew Crayton had 15 points, followed by Blake Kamoen with 9. Sophomores Declan Moriarty and Spencer Savoy had 7 and 6 points, respectively. Andrew Crayton had 8 rebounds, and 4 assists; Bryce O’Linn and Joe Slane played solid defense to contribute to the win.

The Cougars trailed the entire game until 2 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Cody Robinson hit a game tying 3, and with less than a minute to go, Declan Moriarty scored the pivotal go ahead 2. Senior co-captain Luke Mauri had a huge, game-saving steal with the clock winding down, giving the ball back to the Cougars.

Andrew Crayton’s free throw put the Cougars up by 3 with 1.3 seconds on the clock. Portland’s inbound was caught down court by Andrew Crayton to end the game. Next up for the Cougars: East Hampton away on January 29, 2024. JV at 5:30 p.m., Varsity at 7:00 p.m. See you on the court.
