Summary of Haddam Board of Selectmen Meeting January 8th

(January 12, 2024) — The regular meeting of Haddam’s Board of Selectmen on January 8, 2024, was called to order by First Selectman Robert McGarry at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam. Selectmen Kate Anderson and Peter Baird were present.

During Public Comment, Mark Lundgren proposed that COVID-19 relief funds be applied to the Affordable Housing Plan to support aging in place through the establishment of a trust fund during the 2023-2024 budget cycle.

First Selectman McGarry provided the following updates:

  • Cracking was discovered in the Swing Bridge grid deck and stringer interface. While this is being repaired, the bridge cannot open to vessel traffic. The Connecticut Department of Transportation proposed three options for scheduling the repairs and is seeking input from the boating community.
  • Roundabout construction is scheduled to start this spring. He will attend a pre-construction meeting on January 25th.
  • Margo Chase-Wells resigned from Zoning Board of Appeals effective January 2, 2024. The Republican Party will nominate a replacement.

Selectman Anderson proclaimed the Holiday Pop-up Market a success. She also made a motion to waive Brainerd Memorial Library permit fees. The motion carried.

Selectman Baird made a motion to hire Kristin Battistoni as Tax Clerk. The motion carried.

Bill Warner, Town Planner, provided updates on the Higganum community septic, multi-generational playspace, development of the Rossi property and relocation of the town garage. The slide presentation titled “2024 Higganum Center Presentation” is posted on the Town of Haddam website at www.haddam.org.

The next regular Board of Selectmen meeting is scheduled for February 12, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., at Old Town Hall, 21 Field Park Drive, Haddam. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
