(September 19, 2023)—We reached out and asked candidates to respond to a set of questions; if a candidate did not respond, their name is listed, so that you know who is running for each office. Updates from all candidates are welcome and will be published as Letters to the Editor. The candidate’s reply is unchanged from the original as submitted. David Beckman (R):
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is David Beckman and I am running for my second term on the Board of Assessment Appeals and have thoroughly enjoyed serving in this position for our great town! I have been a homeowner in Higganum for 19 years.
Why are you running for this position?
I have been employed for 21 years in the mortgage banking industry and I believe my experience brings great value to the board. I understand appraisals and the value of real estate, automobiles and business assets.
What do you see as the important issues facing your town and how would you address them in your role?
My wife is an HKMS Special Ed teacher and I have a son in the 7th grade. I want our community to continue to thrive while we face the many challenges of how to best assess the value of town real estate, automobiles and business assets.
What are the key things you love about this town and its people?
I value our great community and its people and like to give back through volunteerism, whether it be for my church, youth sports or being treasurer for a variety of organizations.
Additional thoughts to leave the voters with?
I realize that tax payer’s budgets are strained and I will have compassion when listening to your appeal. I understand that as an elected official I work for YOU, the taxpayers of Haddam and Higganum!
