2022 HKHS and Killingworth Library Student Art Show and Silent Auction: 5/05 – 5/31
Killingworth Library transforms into an art gallery for the month of May, as we welcome back the HKHS Art Show! The public is invited to attend the kickoff reception on Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., and the show itself runs through May 31. All students participating in the art show will be eligible for a Best-in-Show prize, and those willing to sell their art will be entered into a drawing for a single $500 scholarship from the library (sale proceeds benefit the library). Be sure to stop by and support these young and talented artists! Students interested in participating should contact one of the following HKHS Arts Instructors: Jason Cannan, Betsy Himmelman, Megan Martin.
Coding for Kids at Killingworth Library
Interested in learning to code? The Killingworth Library is excited to offer an introductory coding class, recommended for ages 8-13! In this class, students will learn a variety of computer science concepts and will use Scratch – a block-based visual coding language developed by MIT for kids – to create stories, do simple animations, and even play with music and sounds.
The class will run from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting May 3, 2022 and running through June 7. Registration is limited to five attendees, so please register in advance. All five will carry through the entire session. Sign up by visiting the Calendar on the library’s website (killingworthlibrary.org) or call 860-663-2000.
May Saturday Storytimes at Killingworth Library
Participants check out the featured book and Take-and-Make Craft from the library, then tune in at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday for a read-along, crafting fun, and a chance to say “Hi” to their friends! Books and supplies are limited, so please register in advance on the Calendar page on the library’s website – killingworthlibrary.org – or call the library at 860-663-2000. Zoom links will be emailed the day before the program. If we see some sunny, warmer days, we may move storytime to an in-person outside gathering! (Participants would be notified in advance.)
