2019 Candidates: Killingworth Town Treasurer

We reached out to both the Killingworth Republican Town Committee and the Killingworth Democrat Town Committee and asked candidates to respond to a set of questions; if a candidate did not respond, their name is listed, so that you know who is running for each office.

Updates from all candidates are welcome, and will be published as Letters to the Editor. The questions posed to the candidates were:

1.     Tell us a little about yourself.
2.     Why are you running for the position?
3.     What do you see as the important issues facing Killingworth and how would you address them in your role?
4.     What are the key things you love about this town and its people?
5.     Additional thoughts to leave voters with?

Donna Dupuis  (Democrat)

I am a first-time candidate running for Killingworth Town Treasurer. I have had the privilege of living in Killingworth for 32 years with my husband, Joe, and raising our daughter here. While working full time and raising a family, I went back to school evenings and attained a Bachelor of Science degree from Albertus Magnus, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

I retired from AT&T (SNET) after a 36-year career, performing a wide range of functions from customer contact marketing jobs to supervisory roles to technical IT programmer. After leaving AT&T, I worked for a Middletown company processing payroll for their 200 employees across three states. It was critical to accurately verify hours worked, time off, medical coverage, along with any aspect affecting an employee’s pay. I currently cover various departments at Killingworth Town Hall when needed for vacations, illnesses, etc.

First, I believe it is important to give back whenever and however you can. I have been a Volunteer District Coordinator and Instructor for the past six years with the AARP Driver Safety program, a volunteer usher at Ivoryton Playhouse, and an associate member of the Killingworth Historical Society. I have also worked at local soup kitchens. I enjoy keeping busy and always welcome an opportunity to learn. When the opportunity to run for Killingworth Town Treasurer was presented to me, I first did my due diligence to ensure I had the qualifications needed to perform the duties. I believe my previous experience has prepared me well to serve Killingworth and its residents as Town Treasurer. I will work hard to provide the service all residents have a right to expect from their elected officials.

The issues I believe are important to Killingworth residents are maintaining the character of the town while ensuring the schools continue to be top notch but keeping the costs/expenses/taxes in check. As Treasurer, I will work with and support all elected officials in any way on the issues important to our residents. I am dedicated to jumping in and doing whatever I can to support this town.

Having made our home here for 32 years, we truly love the small-town atmosphere and the people. All of the town services, the folks at the Town Hall, our wonderful fire department and ambulance volunteers, these are the people who make this town what it is. In times of need, we have been the recipients of “people helping people” philosophy so many Killingworth residents live by. We cannot imagine living anywhere else.
