Submitted by Anne-Marie Cannata McEwen

(September 29, 2022) —The Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts Center, at 605 Main Street in Middletown, is pleased to announce Youth Art Classes to be held November 5, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. $10. Sliding scale free, scholarships for free attendance are available. Snack provided, or bring your own.

Come join us for a fun-filled acrylic paint art class for ages 9-14! In this relaxed two-hour class we will learn the basics of painting with acrylics and then put those new skills to work while painting our very own projects to take home. There will be various wooden canvases and a variety of other fixtures available to choose from.

***Please Note:  We are open to everyone ages 9-14. If your child or teen attending requires special attention or needs, a parent or appropriate guardian must be present with them for the duration of the class. We have an adjoining bookstore/cafe with free wifi.

About the Instructor: Jenavieve Hawks (photo above) is a local artist and art teacher who can be found teaching an abundance of paint workshops across Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She has illustrated and designed art for various medical books and upcoming children’s books. Jenavieve has also been recognized and received many awards/accolades for her artistic works, both nationally and locally. She comes from a long generational line of artists and continues to uphold this tradition by sharing the joyful passion of creating with future generations.

Whether Hawks is designing a world of fairies or painting a magical landscape, it is clear that her lighthearted and creative demeanor continues in her approach to the artistic process. “I feel like the best art is made when you’re just not trying…when you’re just having fun,” said Hawks. “You’ll always look back at that painting no matter what it looks like and you’ll remember what an awesome time you had with your friends or whatever you were doing. It’s a moment captured in time.”
