(June 29, 2022) —On a warm and sunny Sunday, 40 poetry lovers gathered at the peaceful Haddam Meadows State Park memorial butterfly garden on June 26, 2022 to enjoy an afternoon of nature-themed poetry.
Starting with Connecticut State Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson, five accomplished poets, many laureates in their own towns, read selections from the anthology they co-authored, Waking Up to the Earth: Connecticut Poets in a Time of Global Climate Crisis.
Haddam Poet Laureate Lorraine Riess led the event, and also shared her own poems. Lana Orphanides, Mary Guitar, Gwen Gunn likewise took a turn at the microphone with their inspiring, funny, thought-provoking and perceptive work. The Brainerd Memorial Library partnered on the program, and was the recipient of generous donations from the proceeds of the book sale and signing.
Watch for a reprise of this unique cultural event next year, by popular demand!
