Track 2021: HKHS Teams Remain Undefeated after Hale Ray

On Tuesday, May 18, 2021 the Haddam Killingworth High School boys and girls track teams concluded their undefeated dual meet season as they competed in a home meet at the Dick Dupuis Track against Hale Ray High School.  Both the boys and girls team came away with victories on the day as the boys defeated Hale Ray by a score of 126-23 to finish with a record to 5-0 on the season.  This marks the 3rd consecutive undefeated season for the boys and since 2010 the boys have compiled a record of 97-3 in their dual meet competition.

Leading the way for the Cougars were the following event winners: Zenon Kolcio 110 hurdles (16.7) and 300 hurdles (44.4), Kevin Cavrell 100 (11.4) and 200 (23.7), Max Cozean 400 (53.0), John Bruder shot put (48′ 5″), Eamon Sweeney discus (126’5″), Caleb Freeman 1600 (4:54), Matthew Jennings 3200 (9:58), Aidan Law long jump (18’5″), Orion Inkel triple jump (34’11”) and Sam Luther javelin (146’6″).  The boys 4×800 (Alex Lara, Ethan Chester, Andrew Hedges, Greyson Merola), 4×100 (Orion Inkel, John Kowal, Aidan Law, Jon Chute) and 4×400 (Max Cozean, Matthew Jennings, John Kowal, Zenon Kolcio) relays were also victorious on the day helping lead the team to victory.
The H-K girls track and field team also concluded their dual meet season undefeated with a record of 5-0 as they beat Hale Ray by a score of 132.5 to 10.5. This is the girls 2nd consecutive undefeated season and since 2010 the H-K girls track and field has amassed a record of 85-14.

Leading the way for the Cougars were the following winners: Kedarjah Lewis 100 (12.7) and long jump (16’9″), Mai-Ly Criscuolo 100 hurdles (17.6) and 300 hurdles (52.4), Isabel Berardino 1600 (5:52), Hadley Comerford 400 (67.7), Ly-Linh Criscuolo 200 (28.2), Sydney Adelberg 3200 (4:02), Mikaya Laurenza shot put (27’5″), Morgan Schultz pole vault (8’0″), Jess Timothy high jump (4’8″) and triple jump (29’8″), and Scarlett Strom discus (79’11”). The girls 4×800 (Kathy Melgar, Sydney Adelberg, Ava DiMatteo, Ava Tassmer) 4×100 (Hadley Comerford, Leah Chester, Ly-Linh Criscuolo, Mai-Ly Cirscuolo) and 4×400 relays (Mai-Ly Criscuolo, Nina Lamb, Meara Bodak, Kathy Melgar) also won their races to help lead the girls to their victory.

The track teams will next be in action on Friday, May 15, 2021 at the Shoreline Novice Invitational at H-K and then they travel to Old Lyme on Wednesday, May 26 to compete in the Shoreline Championship meet.
