Town of Killingworth: Tropical Storm Isaias Clean-Up

By Cathy Iino, Killingworth First Selectman.
(August 4, 2020) — As you are no doubt aware, Killingworth is virtually 100 percent without power this evening.
Eversource is not yet giving out any restoration times. Given the dozens of trees around town that have taken down wires, I would count on a long wait to get power restored. Depending on the projection, we will open up a shelter to provide water and charging of devices.
The Killingworth road crew will be out clearing trees where there are no wires involved until it gets dark, and they will start again early tomorrow. Many thanks to the residents who opened up roads themselves.
If you are running a generator, be sure that it is not venting carbon monoxide into your house. The KVFC has already had one call to a home where a generator was venting into a basement through an open window. Carbon monoxide can kill you.
Many of us were frustrated today by the inability to get through to Eversource to report outages. So far, I have learned only that their phone system failed. That was obvious! I will let you know whatever information and restoration projections I can get as soon as I can.
Please be very cautious outside. There are still a lot of loose limbs and wires around.
