Tired of Robocalls?

Working to Put an End to Robocalls

On Wednesday, 7/24/19, the House passed the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, a bill I co-sponsored to curb the soaring number of fraudulent and abusive robocalls dialed each day to cell phones and landlines in eastern Connecticut and across the United States. Everyone with a phone in eastern Connecticut knows that there’s been an uptick in robocalls in recent years. They’re disruptive to people’s lives, and they’re often malicious, going after the finances, health care information, or privacy of the receiver. My family has been impacted, and I know many of yours have, too.

For the thousands in our region who have been victimized by robocalls, it’s time to take serious action to protect consumers against this deceptive practice. By offering people an effective way to filter these calls out, our bill would help protect the welfare, privacy, and peace and quiet of thousands of people here in eastern Connecticut. The bill also requires the FCC to enact stronger consumer protections to fight back against and punish fraudulent robocallers. I’m proud of our work to put an end to malicious robocalls here in the House—once again, it’s the Senate’s turn to step up and finish the job.

  1. Probably most people are not even answering these calls, but they continue and can number 5-10 daily. Of course-never do business with these callers. People you want to talk to will be identified with the caller ID on your phone or TV if it is on.
What is criminal is the use of phones with numbers from your town. They usually will note the town with a local number. Industrious criminals will find a discontinued town number and a local name of a person no longer living in town.
Sometimes even current residents will have their numbers hijacked for use.
Further annoyance comes when some even leave messages on your system.
These calls need to stop. Nomorobo and blocking systems don’t eliminate this practice. The state and federal governments need to step in with legislation effective ASAP.
If we all decide not to do business with unknown callers (better-never answer the phone), it will not be lucrative to continue these annoying robocalls that invade our privacy.
