The 2020 5K Pumpkin Run and Kid’s Run IS coming!

Submitted by Carol Dupuis.

For all of you who enjoy running or walking and especially those who have been anxiously awaiting a good road race; Youth and Family Services of Haddam-Killingworth annual Pumpkin Run, our most important fundraiser, is going to be held this year on October 25, 2020. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, we weren’t sure it could happen.  A number of things will be different. This year JB Sports will be the company in charge. We have been working very closely with John Bysiewicz, owner of JB Sports. He has kept us apprised of everything we need to know from the State. Now that the final regulations have been released, we are full force ahead to make this a great event for runners; adults and kids. It will meet all regulations for road races up to 500. So, what’s different?

Location: Haddam-Killingworth High School Track and Little City Rd.  Higganum, CT

Times: Two 5K start times with rolling starts to promote social distancing.

Start Time 1 – 8:00 a.m.

Start Time 2 – 9:45 a.m.

Kids Fun Run Start 11:30 a.m.

Activities: Races only, no spectators unless with child running kid’s race

Masks: for volunteers at all times and participants except while running (pull up if someone passing closely)

Food: grab and go food bags & all bottled water for runners

Cleaning: hand sanitizer and washing stations

Toilets: socially distanced portable toilets

Registrations:  www.jbsports.com look for our event on Oct. 25

Virtual: Our event will be ready to switch to a virtual event should conditions in CT warrant.

**Sponsorship: We need your support. Sponsorships are available. If you haven’t heard from YFSHK or JB Sports and you own, or work for a company that might be willing to be a sponsor, please call or email Laura Shipman, whose info is below.

Money raised from this event, and other donations, provides for many prevention activities at all levels in our schools, Juvenile Review Board (to keep students from having to go to Court, when an infraction has occurred), summer activities (when possible, i.e., health concerns), various kinds of assistance to families in need, many other projects and educational programs. We also provide counseling services by licensed staff,

There are opportunities for High School students to earn Community Service Hours, among many other things.

If you have any questions, call YFSHK at (860) 345-7498 or email Laura Shipman at office@hkyfs.org.
