Special Board of Selectmen Meeting: April 15, 2019

Editors Note: A more detailed report of this proceeding will follow.

The Board of Selectmen convened a special BOS meeting on Monday, April 15, 2019. First Selectwoman Lizz Milardo, Selectman Larry Maggi, and Selectwoman Melissa Schlag were present, as was Assistant to First Selectwoman Milardo.

The first major item is that Milardo explained that the Regional School District #17 Board of Education is donating the Swan Hill property directly to the Haddam Land Trust, rendering a Town Meeting unnecessary for the Town to accept that property and then pass it on to the Trust (which had been discussed at the regular BOS meeting on April 8, 2019).

The second major item is that the BOS passed a motion to set a public hearing for May 1, 2019, 6:30 p.m. at the Firehouse on the topic of the Haddam Elementary School and the 10 acres-land parcel surrounding it.

The BoS went on to pass a motion to have a referendum on June 4 and referendum question will be : “Shall the Town of Haddam purchase from RSD #17 the Haddam Elementary School and the surrounding 10 acres more or less for the purchase price of $450,000 to be paid to RSD#17 over three years in equal payments starting July 1, 2020.”
