(Oct. 18, 2019) — And then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils. This is the last line from William Wordsworth’s poem, “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud,” and it is also the theme poem for Halfinger Farms newest crop: pick your own daffodils. Imagine 8000 daffodils of all colors and types shining and dancing in the spring sunshine. What a beautiful sight they will be!
John Halfinger explained, “We are working hard to create a daffodil destination; a place for people to come and take in the beauty, to relax, to renew, to take photos and of course, to pick daffodils to take home or to give as a gift to someone they love.”
This fall, the Halfinger Family greatly expanded the their existing crop by planting 8000 additional bulbs which will provide blossoms for picking during the months of March and April. “We are working with a family business out of Holland to purchase a bulb planter. This is a critical piece of specialty equipment, as you can imagine how labor intensive planting this number of bulbs by hand is. These planters are common in the Netherlands, but not here in the USA.”
The Halfingers plan on expanding the daffodil fields each year to create a beautiful daffodil destination right here in Higganum. “It will be yet another gem in Higganum that helps to make our town and the surrounding towns so special.” Daffodils represent renewal and rebirth; they are the perfect flower for everyone!
