Haddam Killingworth Town Alert: Winter Storm Warning 12/16/20

Submitted by Haddam Killingworth Town Alerts

(12/16/2020) A winter storm warning has been issued for our area starting 2pm today thru 1pm on Thursday. Heavy snow is forecasted in the range of 12 to 16 inches, and possible wind gusts as high as 45 miles per hour.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Stay off the roads if you can. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and power lines. Remember, parking on town roads is banned from November 15th through April 15th, keep the roads clear for the plows.

FEMA has prepared a winter weather preparedness list. You can visit that information by going to https://www.ready.gov/winter-weather .

We have already been in touch with our emergency partners from Eversource. They are reporting their crews and contractors are on standby. Remember to report all power outages directly to Eversource, and to treat any and all downed wires as live.

During the winter months, it’s important to keep your furnace vents, intake valves and chimneys free of snow. Blocked vents could cause carbon monoxide to build up in your home and cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

If you have fire department standpipes nearby, please keep them clear and accessible. Every second counts in an emergency.

Make sure your house numbers or driveway markers are clear of snow and visible to responders.

Finally, make sure you are enrolled for Emergency Alerts from the town of Haddam by signing up at www.haddam.org/alert.
