Letter to the Editor: The US Should Stop Buying Oil from Russia!

Open Letter to our Connecticut Senators and Members of Congress,

According to reports on CNN and FOX at least 80% of Americans are appalled that the U.S. is buying oil from Russia.  We are complicit in funding Putin’s war on Ukraine and this is unacceptable.  We hear administration spokespeople say they are working with NATO allies to stop buying energy from Russia.  That sounds good, but time is running out.  Why can’t the US become a leader and lead by example to stop the U.S. purchase of Russian oil immediately?

The necessary next step would be to unleash the ability of our country to become energy independent once again.  There will be a period before this happens during which Americans will be hurt by higher prices and shortages.  Americans in the 1970’s faced the need to carpool in order to reduce the amount of gasoline we were using during that period of shortage.  This is a minor sacrifice I am willing to make in the hope that it will help the Ukrainians.

The United States should be a leader and not be sitting in wait for others to take the first step.

Respectfully,

Edward Munster
