Breaking the Cycle of Partisan Politics.

How disappointing to see the recent criticism from State Rep. Christine Palm in the Courier. Instead of focusing on solutions for our community, her letter felt more like a personal attack against Kathryn Russell, and that’s simply not acceptable.

Unfortunately, Palm spends most of her message bashing Kathryn instead of discussing Muir’s strong points. Pitting party against party by calling out political labels is simply playground bullying and not what voters wish to hear.

I appreciate Kathryn for choosing to focus on the issues and solutions that will benefit everyone in the 36th District. Kathryn is running as a Republican but she has made it clear through her actions and outreach that she represents all of us — not just a singular party.

The suggestion that Kathryn needs to disavow her party affiliation is just another example of how the focus is moved off of the issues to create chaos instead. The focus should be on real dialogue, not Donald Trump. He is not who Kathryn is nor is he who she aspires to be.

I want to hear about the plans for lowering expenses overall, improving public safety and tackling those issues that affect our everyday lives. The focus needs to be on pertinent thought, not party labels. We should consider candidates based on their solutions for our community, not assumptions tied to their political party.

Kathryn Russell represents the kind of leadership that looks beyond partisan divides and that is exactly what we need right now.

I believe Kathryn offers the type of practical, common-sense leadership we have been looking for in a politician. Her focus is on affordability, local solutions and moving our district forward — not getting caught up in political theater. That is why she has my support, and I encourage other voters to do the same.
