Municipal elections are, for me, incredibly important because every aspect affects each of us individually and personally. The setting of the mill rate, how we educate our children, how we care for our elders, protection of our natural resources, and how we interact with our neighbors all come into play every two years. We feel it and we see it every day by looking beyond our own backyard into our community. Your vote is your voice. Please make a plan to vote on November 7.
As occasionally happens in municipals, we in Killingworth are looking at a top of the ticket with no incumbents, a new Board of Selectmen. Eric Couture and Joel D’Angelo have been quietly going about their business of 16 combined years of experience on our RSD17 Board of Education. They have been working and honing their skills for this day. Both bring to the table a science background at a time when PFAS is looming over us. They bring experience in administration and state government. It’s time for fresh new faces, experiences, and ideas on our Board of Selectmen.
To support this new board, we have brought together an outstanding slate of candidates. It is a mix of experience and youth, incumbents and first-time candidates. All are uniquely qualified for their chosen position. As you make your plan to vote, read up on our candidates at killingworthdemocrats.org. You will see that our choices are based on what is best for the town and for the people who choose to live in this amazing community.
Marcel Couture and Bill Kosturko for the Board of Finance will continue the tradition of being fiscally conservative with your tax dollars while ensuring all town departments and services have the resources they need to run efficiently and effectively.
Nelson Rivera, Jen Voegtli, and Suzanne Sack for Board of Education represent years of experience and fresh ideas.
For Planning & Zoning we endorsed incumbent Tom Hogarty, first time candidate Mike Sarlin, and Paul McGuinness a commissioner with 16 years on the Commission who also happens to be a Republican.
Our Town Treasurer and Tax Collector, Donna Dupuis and Michele Nuhn are dedicated, experienced, and cross- endorsed.
The balance of Row A is stacked with incumbents and new faces. Our existing elected officials and town staff are poised to step forward into Killingworth’s future with a new administration aware of the challenges ahead and with the backgrounds to deal with them.
I urge you to join me in voting for Row A all the way. Let’s step into Killingworth’s bright future together with the knowledgeable problem solvers on this slate.
Annie Stirna, Killingworth
(Annie Stirna is Chairwoman of the Killingworth Democratic Town Committee and a member of the Killingworth Board of Finance)
