Letter of support for Bob McGarry for First Selectmen

Shortly we will all have a say in who will be the next leader for our town, and how we determine who that person will be is serious business.  We are the “employer” and we are looking for someone who will have a solid understanding of how to manage people, money, requests for assistance, emergency preparedness, legal matters, and more.  We need a person who will be willing to listen carefully and act responsibly regarding the concerns of our community. They must have a proven track record of success and be versed in many areas.  We live in complicated times, and we cannot afford to walk into the voting booth unprepared.  Elections are serious matters, not popularity contests where people base their vote on emotions only.  So, what are the skills Bob McGarry possesses?  For one, he has a degree in Civil Engineering which will be extremely helpful when it comes to managing work to be done on our roads, bridges, and infrastructure.  Furthermore, he is a retired Coast Guard Commander which means he knows how to manage people to make sure things are done properly and safely.  If you research what it takes to become a Commander in the Coast Guard you will come across terms such as “highly motivated individuals”, “high moral character”, and “solid leadership skills”.  In addition, his experience includes working as the current Fire Chief of Haddam Neck Fire Dept., a Director for NE Utilities, a Senior Manager for two state agencies, and an Associate Professor at Post University where he teaches courses in Emergency Management and Homeland Security.  Given the lists of experiences he has had, it is easy to see that Bob McGarry has exactly what it takes to be our next First Selectmen.  I urge you all to take the gift of voting very seriously – vote for Bob McGarry on November 5, 2019.
